Each year Vogue Charity Fashion Show has devoted its efforts to raising funds for a wide range of charitable organizations. VCFS is delighted to announce that this 2015-2016 year we will be supporting Happy Soul Project, a local Kingston charity.
This charity was initially started as a blog and website written by Tara McCallan as a personal outlet. Tara is a mother of two children. Her daughter Reid, known as “Pip”, has down syndrome as well as other health issues that commonly follow this diagnosis, such as eye and heart problems. Tara shared her journey, experiences and messages through blogging and social media. This gained thousands of followers including other mothers, the down syndrome community, media sources, local schools and even young doctors hoping to change the negative stigma around a down syndrome diagnosis.
Happy Soul Project aims to change perspectives, break down stigmas and celebrate differences. It is about striving to be grateful no matter what happens in life and accepting the fate we are given. It is about seeing the beauty in the challenges and the hope in the hardships. It is about finding joy unexpectedly, becoming a kinder person & continuing to always have an open mind.
Happy Soul Project has various initiatives and VCFS is excited to announce that we will be supporting the Kick-It-Capes campaign. This initiative sends kids fighting cancer, serious illnesses or struggling to accept differences a boost of strength and love. They have sent over 2500+ Kick-It-Capes to children around the world and work alongside Sick Kids, Ronald McDonald Houses, KGH and CHEO.
There were so many worthy charities, which made the decision process very difficult. Thank you to everyone who submitted charity proposals and we look forward to your support this year.
